Sick of applescript programs for video conversion, here's my new Cocoa app written entirely in Objective-C, multithreaded, to encode a variety of movie formats into vcd mpeg1/svcd mpeg2, xvcd, xsvcd, and DVD ready for DVD Studio Pro format.

There is a variety of different options available for todays media afficianado, we find the format to be trusted by the experts, and that maintains the widest range of compatability is MPEG. (Specifically MPEG-1 and MPEG-2)
It has become clear to us that it isn't as easy as it should be to convert the wide array of available media formats to (S/X)VCD/DVD. In an effort to answer a large demand for a simple to use program that encompasses the large spectrum of options available to the Macintosh platform we are proud to bring you Echelon.
Convert multiple files
Echelon delivers the capability of converting a large queue list of files to a variety of different MPEG based formats (MPEG-1 and MPEG-2). It aims to employ all the complex video tools in one easy to use program.
Limitless customization
In an effort to accomodate your personal needs each file maintains its own individual settings. It is also possible to save your favorite presets for future usage.
Fast, Reliable, Simple
We have put in endless hours of research to only allow conversion methods that will solely yield usable end products. We aim to have a harmonious blend of intuitition and simplicity, the things you have come to expect as a Macintosh user.
Advanced User Features
In an effort to meet the needs of the varied levels of experience within our userbase we have implemented an array of advanced features for each encoder included.
Realtime Preview
In addition to intuitive graphical and textual progress indication, the user has the freedom to view the actual frames of video as they are encoded.
Multiple Effect Filters
From adjusting gamma (to be implemented later), to deinterlacing, to denoising we attempted to supply all the necessary effect filters for any of your desired outcomes.
World friendly
We will be localizing Echelon in multiple languages, and are up to suggestion for any localizations we didn't cover, dont hesitate to contact us with more language suggestions.

Also of note with the Dension solution if you get a new car down the road and want to move it to the new car, it will only work if the new car is the same make as your current car (i.e. Honda to Honda not Honda to BMW) which sucks because they should just make it so you can just swap cable connecting the ICE Link to the car's headunit. Oh well I guess I'll see what the iCruze has to offer when it comes out.
This is not true. the ICE works with several after-market brands like Sony, Kenwood, Alpine, etc. If you had one of these in your car, and got a new one, you would merely have to move the radio to the new car.

TS you are looking at around $400 for a used I4 or $599-$699 for new or about the same after ETF and monthly plus you carrier plan. this is why most in your situation a dumb phone and a touch is the best route.

Actually, they were all Canon units. Looked great and worked very well in the beginning.
That was my reason for being vague about any specific brand, all multifuntion units leave a lot to be desired in the quality department.
There ain't no free lunch. The only reason that all the manufacturers can offer such seemingly good value for money, is because they cut corners where you can't see - at least not at first anyhow.
That's sad. Canon had a bad reputation for consumer printers when the Bubble Jet line arrived but I thought that they were doing anything to stay away from that.
Well, there is one place where Epson cut corners on the CX6400--the USB 2.0 cable. It's extremely short but better to have the requisite, speedy cable included. Compared to the C84, the CX6400 was expensive--the C86/CX6600 shows a similar price differential. I'm completely surprised that I haven't had troubles as I've read plenty about people with C84s having problems.
I would suggest that paying around $100 for an all-in-one is inviting trouble, though.

all very good advice/info/support.
anyway, the issue is real.
the screen sits away from windows and the sun.
i don't smoke.
there's no dog.
the areas that are yellow tinged follow the edges of the screen and best i can figure, it's the pixels burning out in a weird way, or (less likely in my view) dustparticles inside the glass that's making it discolored.

Is this why we have a ratings system now?
Skynet took over MacRumors!!
No, but Skynet did take over Apple. See proof (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/20/researchers-disclose-iphone-and-ipad-location-tracking-privacy-issues/).
I always wondered if Arn let you guys keep all the Spam you delete. :)
We print out all spam posts and keep them in notebooks so arn can review them during our bi-centurial performance evaluations.

Finally broke down and picked up a MacMini. I have a time machine backup of my MBP and all my software installed but would like to just replace the default OS on the MacMini to save me time from having to reinstall all of my software.
1) Is this possible?
2) Since the hardrive size is different between the two, if I am able to restore from my MBP image (250 GB), will the MacMini only have 250GB formatted and allocated or will it format the entire 320GB and be accessible or will I need to extend the partition to reclaim the additional 70GB?
Thanks for any advice.

Two notes for you:
1) Why have you not told us what your device is? At least the class of device? This could at least get us to the point of knowing if we should expect the OS to have a generic HID divice driver for this class of device. If there is no generic class driver, then: yes, absolutely you will need to create a device driver (and no, it is not going to be easy).
Unless you ask good questions, you should expect nothing but bad answers.
2) This is not the sort of forum where you should expect to find people who can write drivers. This is a user-level forum. If you need help writing device drivers, then your best bet (short of paying someone who knows how to write device drivers on the Mac) is going to be on Apple's Darwin-drivers list (http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/darwin-drivers).

$800.
Where did you buy it? I hope it wasn't craigslist. If it was eBay I would print out the listing information just encase if it turns out there's nothing in it. You could then open a case on eBay and demand your money back.

I just ordered an iMac with SSD + 1TB hard drive. I'm assuming that when Apple builds the system, that they just dump everything onto the SSD. What are the correct steps for moving the home directory from the SSD to the hard drive? My plan is to install all applications on the SSD, but have the data (my user files, iTunes library, photos, media, documents, etc.) on the hard drive.

Yes it is a dual 500gb drive system. Both are set up as single drives, not RAID. Never been cloned. Yes I am using snow leopard server that came unlimited with the machine.
This change in name came from the server software somehow. I was able with no issues change it back to the way it was using the server admin software and going in as remote user. No issues. It has since stayed in this setup as it had for over a year now. I double checked all the machines in the home and all the devices the kids come over with, ipads, iphones, laptops etc. and nothing is even close to the server names. I just don't have a clue as to why it would all of a sudden report that another machine with the same name was on the network and then allow it and change it's own name. It seems to me that it would have not allowed the other machine period until IT changed its name.

The iPad updating of their own apps is quite sad.
The remote app which is a must with a networked express and/or Apple TV setup would truly benefit from not only being updated to run at something other than 2x mode, but a whole new iPad UI. And it should have been ready on April 3rd when the iPad was released. Same goes true for the Gallery and iDisk apps.
I don't want to run any Apple apps in 2x or worse 1x mode on an iPad. Likewise, just like the Settings app and others, rethink the UI instead of blowing up the image.
