He did it last year. The 5G event was streamed to Europe and you still can't get TV shows. Neither can we but it wasn't streamed here.

ah i think your right, memory is hazy, the 5G release was so long ago now...

That's what Microsoft does. Copy Apple and make the copy so bad that Apple can't quite sue them. MS has been doing that for DECADES.
That's why I call MS "The Worlds Biggest Out-Of-Focus Copying Machine".

It's not good for consumers in the long run. We get stuck with expensive and inferior copies of Apple products. Yuck.

A Microsoft App Store is almost too hilarious a concept to think about. Thinking about it might make good therapy for depression but could have side effects related to excessive laughter.
If they're very lucky it will be Zune2.

MS has been focusing on Enterprise features? Odd. Our MS based computers at work are actually worse to use than Windows computers at home. Perhaps our IT guys are just being cruel?

    Have Fun.
    Keri

MS knows 5 things, more or less:

    1) How to extend boredom and bad software into the enterprise
    2) How to copy (poorly)
    3) Office suite rehashes
    4) Xbox
    5) How to ride the coattails of their universal licensing racket

For quite a long time now, the only thing MS has had left is empty talk. Lip service and blustery denial, i.e., tablets are a fad, Apple rounding errors, etc. All of these are excuses in the face of continued, embarrassing criticism. MS is all about excuses. Ever notice that? Whenever it's question period Ballmer always has an answer - even if it sounds batshit insane. Of course, excuses don't put insanely great products into consumers' hands (unless it's substandard copies three years later!) But that's OK. MS wil "get it right" eventually. We keep hearing that. Just give them time. Meanwhile Apple, at a fraction of the cost, redefines entire markets overnight. It's almost like business as usual at Apple: redefine markets and create new ones. Lead the way forward. So in other words: no waste. Money spent wisely. Which leads me to the next point . . .

Did you know that Microsoft has outspent Apple roughly 8-1 in R&D over the last decade? Yup. 8 to freaking 1.

And in that time - a decade, Apple has produced Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server, lots of groundbreaking Mac models (multiple iMac versions, the iBooks, MacBooks, MacBook Pros, MacBook Air, Power Macs, etc.), iPod, popularized Podcasting, iTunes, iTunes Store, iPhone, iOS, Apple TV, the App Store, Mac App Store, and, of course their current game-changer: the iPad.

Microsoft, on the other hand, for 8x the money, has come up with: another back-asswards Mac OS X clone - a Windows rehash that they're trying to shoehorn onto tablets with varying degrees of failure, some bloated Office retreads, the Zune, Kin, Bing, and Windows Phone 2007. If it wasn’t for the Sony-inspired Xbox (Red Ring of Death included) and a Nintendo-inspired Xbox controller, Microsoft would have nothing but a string of failures to show for roughly 80 billion dollars. The ratio of R&D to revenue for both companies couldn’t be more telling. Of course, they put a lot of R&D into their Enterprise software. Which doesn't function any better today than it has years ago. We're still on XPee at work. So, of course it's all useless to us. It's hard to get excited about Exchange and Outlook.

That's right. $80 billion for a PlayStation clone, an accessory to make it work like a Wii, an also-ran search engine, and what’s left of Nokia.

Is it more funny than sad? I'm not sure.

Any random person picked off the street could have run Microsoft better during the last decade. Mind you, not that a lot of other CEOs are any brighter (here's lookin' at ya, Acer!)

Microsoft does two things really well, though: Retarded product names and waste. Add these to the other five above. The list still doesn't look any better.

    Cheers

Sheesh, what a BORING update. Who cares about the shade of the buttons in the System Preferences? They're still using this same boring GREY that they've been using since Panther (minus the brushed steel). How boring is grey? I hate to say it, but Windows 7 with their translucent plastic is TEN TIMES more attractive than Mac OSX.

Apple used to make visually interesting computers. Now it's all this boring industrial design.

What's next? Going back to BEIGE?

More to the point, where do you draw the line? Should every school curiculum include the struggles of Jews, Blacks, Native Americans, Chinese, Muslims, Hispanics, Christians, Women, etc... gonna be kinda tough to fit all that in. Or does your plan draw the line somewhere? I mean are gay people more important than Native Americans? In terms of history, whom do you believe got screwed over more and whose struggles should be taught in school?

If you were to walk onto the street and ask 100 people which group of people were persecuted the most out of blacks, Native Americans, Jews, women or gays, I'm pretty sure the majority of people would place gays last, out of those groups. Now a liberal state like New York, Hawaii or California may add gay history to their school programs, but don't expect to see it in the majority of the US States. It's simply not important to single out a persons sexuality to highlight their importance in history. Was Oppenheimer's religion put before his contributions to the bomb? I mean is there a little star next to his name with an annotation listing his religion?

Maybe its just me. But I simply don't care if someone was black, blue, brown, Jewish, the Egyptian god Ra, whatever... its the persons contributions, not their ethnicity, sexual pref or religious affiliation that define(d) them. Treat people equally, not with preference.
    Well said.

Most people here really don't get that accomplishments aren't being promoted so much as the homosexuality of the historical figures.

I just bought the 23 inch several days ago. My serial is 2A6251XXXXXX and it shows up with a june 2006 production date. Like the earlier poster, it is very bright and I also turned it down a little. I also turned the color down to Thousands instead of Millions as a psychological trick for when i need it. Now after reading the pink hue replies (which i totally forgot about) I can't tell if i have a pinkish hue or if its my own paranoia.

    1. Does anyone have a pic or example of the Pinkish hue?

    2. Is there a way to test or tell which 23" model you have?l

    We've all be wrong before.

its interesting that Fortune picked up the story as well. The internet is the new home of the written truth.

It would be cool if it happens, but I'm not holding my breath.

these pictures are from a story I read on engadget about some guy that made an aluminum case for his iPhone...and strangley I saw it around March 23, my birthday....which is why I remember it

You're thinking of this one: http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/24/iphone-3gs-mod-ditches-plastic-cover-in-favor-of-titanium-vestme/

This new one is clearly different, I'm leaning towards real. It looks like a little iPad.

Ok fellows, thanks for the waiting, my new house is a mess but at least all my furniture is here now. I follow both of your examples ( wlh99's E-mail project and the great explanation that Knight showed here). I first started a new project in order to avoid confusion and made some changes, the result is what I think " a working timer " with start, stop and reset buttons. If I see the code now it seems a bit obvious why the timer never stopped before. I can tell you right now that I never reset the global variables inside any cancel or reset button thus the timer always continued. I think that the first variable (NSInteger seconds = 0 before the first method) gets called only once after that we reset it to 0 using the reset or cancel method (we can do it separately like knight said), in my case I assign reset to be the one to set that to 0 and cancel to invalid the timer.

Knight and wh99, if you like to see the project running and tell me your throughs, just give me your E-mail addresses (I have Warren's already) so I can share it with you. For obvious reasons I'm not posting it and if some of you wonder why, it's for same reasons nobody posted the complete working code despite being able to make a timer in less than 3 minutes. (yes, I know it's because you think it would not help me and I understand)

Special thanks to Knight and wh99 for their patience and instructions.

Thanks also to everyone who gave his opinion on this matter.

    sony nex5 double lens kit

not as impressive as some of the other recent camera purchases, but i'm happy nevertheless

i've been eyeing this off for a couple of months now and by chance noticed a major price discount on a major electronic chain's website yesterday morning

jumped in the car and went straight down and they had to honour the price which was well below cost :D

best part was the dude that sold it to me rang his wife as i was leaving telling her to come in and buy one as it was cheaper than what he could get it for himself, lol, and then reported the website misprint

jobs was being over the top cuz he knew he was taking a risk ..

he has a hit product in his hands, the iPod, he knows it will sell ..
and now he has a new product .. possibly risky and you never know how it will sell .. so what do you do? bundle it with the hit product and force it upon the customers ..

so now if i need the widescreen ipod, but dont like the phone .. i dont have the choice .. either stand outside apple outlet and drool all day or go in and pay extra for the phone that comes with the ipod that i want.

i dont want to pay extra for the phone cuz i dont want it but would have bought the ipod .. apple loses a customer

whether this glitch/bug was intentional or not and even if you are not a fan of frequent updates, at least Apple has acknowledged the demand for a fix and those who prefer not to have their location tracked will at least have the option to remove this feature.

Great you have it working now and hopefully it will stay up a week.

well it's not looking very good. it should have posted a bigadv unit by now. and my number of gpu units are looking lower - which means that something crashed. man it only had 12 hours left on the bigadv unit when i left, and now nothing. it was folding way at around 34:30 per frame inside a VM.

Thanks stoid, Just trying to determine when the specs actually changed,
RATHER than when Apple decided to announced the changes.
Must have been before August 7 2006 when they were "updated".

It looks terrific, no problems so far.
Just want to be sure I have the "latest and greatest" right?
