Years back I suggested a thanks button but it went nowhere. In truth I'm glad because it was flawed idea and so is this. Of all the things that could really use changing around here THIS is what we get? I really don't understand the point at all but I can certainly see some big drawbacks to it.
Firestarter had some good ideas here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12442078&postcount=150) if it simply must stick around but I really hope it doesn't. I've watched it happen on other forums - it becomes a popularity contest more than anything useful, particularly if there are little to no controls with it.
P.S. The box surrounding the up/down buttons is baboon-ass ugly.

That one elicits a defensive, paranoid response while the other doesn't says more about the parent than the doctor.
The NRA has so brainwashed their members that the boogeyman is gonna confiscate their guns that there has to be some hidden agenda in questions about firearms. The doctor are not turning you into some database, I promise. We just care about the safety of your child/

Doctors or any child-safety-related services person start asking questions, and the parents will gleefully talk about how safe everything in their house/car is (cleaners and poisons safely stored away, cabinets locked, access to pool is locked, car seats, etc). One question about guns and suddenly they go ape****** about how their privacy is being invaded. I see the whole gun-ownership thing as kind of a dick-waving exercise. Back to the issue at hand, McDonalds....
I literally almost threw up towards the end of the video. Do you think the perpetrators were aware of the victim's transgender status? I could barely make out what they were saying in the video as I had to listen to it quietly...
Also- Let's realistically think about what the employees can/should have done... My initial instinct/gut reaction is for the manager to lock the doors to prevent the girls from running. Then you need to realize that McDonalds surely has policies in place for times like this, and the risk of an employee getting injured attempting to apprehend a criminal is a lawsuit waiting to happen....
Another gut reaction is that if the manager had a shotgun under the counter, this situation never would have devolved into the poor victim convulsing on the floor.
My last gut reaction is that Baltimore finally made it to my list of places to never return to.
I think if I were her, I would consider moving to a different city as well. I can only imagine that these girls have relatives who will most likely harass her. It's sad to say, but it happens a lot.

I knew there'd be a lot of "wuts" but this makes sense. If you don't like it, don't download it. I'm sure plenty of people will and it only adds value to their advertisers.

The bigger problem is that Apple rejected an app that served just this purpose (but was surely less pretty), as was already mentioned. This is a cool app, but they should be giving all of the money they earn from it to those that tried to submit this app long ago. I love Apple and have been converting slowly since my first iPod several years ago, but this is absolutely lame of them, even if it only effected a few people.

I think the Volt is a success in terms of meeting its intended design parameters. However, I think the whole notion of the all-electric car and plug-in hybrids are flawed due to our current infrastructure.
As long as we burn fossil fuels to get the electricity, the electric car is just sweeping the fossil fuel/pollution problem under the rug by putting the "dirty" side of power consumption out of sight (back at the power plant). Also, there's no way our current power generation infrastructure could support even a fraction of the population switching to electric cars. California already has rolling blackouts - if people stopped burning gas and switched to electrics, the problem would get drastically worse.
I think electric cars are a dead end for the present...At least until our entire power grid makes large-scale switches to alternative energy, and there is no timeline for that currently. Also, there is currently no guarantee that practical fuel-cell systems will ever be truly affordable or mass-producable. The current offerings are all extremely expensive, proof-of-concept vehicles with short useful lives.
We'd be better off with diesels or diesel hybrids. People don't want to admit it, but those are currently our best options IMO.

should have realized that it was over at 9pm PST, but I did start trying to put my order in at 8:45pm PST. Tried to used my $50 credit from ipod settlement but the promo code field was already filled out so I didn't have anywhere to put it. talked to a rep (just after it passed 9pm PST) by which time the discounts were all gone anyways :( The rep told me, no discount codes can be used today - kind of lame.

Unfortunately, Clukas's quote above is a perfect example of how the majority of the board is reacting to this post. 'Lost cause', 'loser', 'moron', 'has no life' are all insults I've seen all over this posting. Incredibly immature and unnecessary if you ask me.
There are people, they're often called socialists, who believe that it's somehow unfair that a few people make more money than everyone else. These same people probably applaud when stores get looted in a crisis, protests or during civil unrest.

I think what we're witnessing here in response to this story is the effect of the new breed of Apple buyer - a creature with the resources to afford the best, but non of the appreciation to discern the value of anything.

The ad is just comparing 3G to 3G, so 1x/EDGE doesn't count.
There are 2 gaping holes in this commercial. Looking at the map I'm positive Verizon is counting 1xRTT in their footprint, just like they have stopped giving a breakdown on their coverage map by calling all data access "Broadband". They are also using some weird algorithm for their map as looking at even basic phone coverage 50% or more of upstate NY should be white. Not because Verizon's got a bad network, but because it's wilderness and farm country.
Unfortunately none of the YouTube videos clearly show the weaselease at the end of the commercial that I'm sure will show how they have manipulated this map.

I managed McDs for several years in a prior life, both for McOpCo (McDonald's Corporation) and private franchisees.
Both of them had rules about not physically getting involved in altercations between customers, but it was from the stand-point of putting yourself in harms away, and creating a liability (regardless of who is wrong or right, if you touch a customer, you can personally be sued, as well as the company).
If this were my store, and I was the manager, I don't think I would have touched the two girls doing the assaulting, but I would have physically gotten between and the girl they were beating the crap out of. If they wanted to punch me, fine. But that's also because I'm 6ft3 and 250lbs (a lot bigger than the blue shirt manager in the video) and those two girls don't scare me.
If this was a situation where I thought I may get hurt, I don't know if I would do the same.
It seems like the manager disappeared for awhile in the middle of the video. I hope it was because he was calling 911. The crews reaction was horrible. Had the crew have remained behind the counter and acted in a professional manner, the outcome of this event wouldn't have been any different, IMO.
